Alappuzha-Kerala
Kerala, a state on India's tropical Malabar Coast, has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline. It's known for its palm-lined beaches and backwaters, a network of canals. Inland are the Western Ghats, mountains whose slopes support tea, coffee and spice plantations as well as wildlife. National parks like Eravikulam and Periyar, plus Wayanad and other sanctuaries, are home to elephants, langur monkeys and tigers. The Chera Dynasty was the first prominent kingdom based in Kerala. The Ay kingdom in the deep south and the Ezhimala kingdom in the north formed the other kingdoms in the early years of the Common Era (CE or AD). The region had been a prominent spice exporter since 3000 BCE. The region's prominence in trade was noted in the works of Pliny as well as the Periplus around 100 CE. In the 15th century, the spice trade attracted Portuguese traders to Kerala, and paved the way for European colonisation of India. At the time of Indian independence movement in the early 20th century, there were two major princely states in Kerala-Travancore State and the Kingdom of Cochin. They united to form the state of Thiru-Kochi in 1949. The Malabar region, in the northern part of Kerala, had been a part of the Madras province of British India, which later became a part of the Madras State post-independence. After the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, the modern-day state of Kerala was formed by merging the Malabar district of Madras State (excluding Gudalur taluk of Nilgiris district, Topslip, the Attappadi Forest east of Anakatti), the state of Thiru-Kochi (excluding four southern taluks of Kanyakumari district, Shenkottai and Tenkasi taluks), and the taluk of Kasaragod (now Kasaragod District) in South Canara (Tulunad) which was a part of Madras State.

We contacted Rare Holidays directly through their lovely website and inquired if they could organize us a tour to Nagaland where we wanted to cover a Festival to make a videos and photo shoot , then again a photo shoot in Mathura , Abha Neri in Rajasthan. The company organized everything for us including accommodation, transportation at all places with excellent drivers. WE HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A SUPERB JOURNEY TO INDIA, ONE OF THE GREATEST ADVENTURES OF OUR LIFE. THE TRIP WAS ORGANIZED AND SHANTANU ROY CHOWDHURY, THE DIRECTOR, PERSONALLY ACCOMPANIED US ON THIS FIVE-WEEK JOURNEY THROUGH RAJASTHAN AND KERALA. THE TRIP WAS OUTSTANDING BECAUSE OF ITS VARIETY, ITS CONTACT WITH PEOPLE AND ANIMALS, ITS ARTISTIC, CULTURAL, AND HISTORICAL EXPERIENCES, AND THE SUPERB ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS WITH WHICH RARE HOLIDAYS PLANNED THE ITINERARY. THE HOTELS WERE EXCELLENT AND VARIED, FROM DELUXE TENTS ON SAND DUNES TO RESTORED 16TH-CENTURY PALACES. WE WERE TREATED ROYALLY€“THE RESPECT, GRACE, AND SENSE OF HOSPITALITY EVERYWHERE MAKE A TRIP TO INDIA SPECIAL AND MEMORABLE. TRAVEL TO INDIA IS SPECIAL BECAUSE ONE EXPERIENCES A UNIQUE WAY OF LIFE WHILE ONE CAN ALSO HAVE THE LUXURY OF STAYING IN EXQUISITE ACCOMMODATIONS, EATING DELICIOUS FOOD, AND ENJOYING A WARM, AFFABLE, AND DELIGHTFUL GROUP OF PEOPLE.

I recommend the services of Rare Holidays, and his company, to anyone who is planning a trip to India. In my case, as the director of Asian Studies at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and as the leader of a fieldtrip made in May 2000 (with my wife, who is also a professor, one graduate assistant, and nine American students), Rare Holidays first followed to the letter my instructions for a Buddhist-focused trip across northern India, from New Delhi to Calcutta, and then booked excellent accommodations and additional experiences for us, even accompanying us cross-country, to make sure that our needs were met. Our trip was challenging — in terms of the intense heat and humidity of summer, as well as in the combination of culture shock and awe-inspiring beauty that India automatically offers , but Rare Holidays was always there with practical and professional assistance to ensure that we met the challenge with a minimum of difficulty. Our comfort and safety were his constant concerns. I look forward to other fieldtrips in the future under his management.

Organizing the group directly through Rare Holidays was a positive point as we saved a lot of money which we otherwise would have paid to an Italian Operator. We also visited Pushkar. Agra, Bharatpur and Jodhpur City which was just so gorgeous. We enjoyed the nice hotels booked for us and had some real great food. Mr Roy accompanied us to Chambal Sanctuary and it as great fun and education for the whole group. We had Italian speaking guide and communication was so easy. The itinerary was suggested by Roy, who suggested us also to visit Chambal Sanctuary, south of Agra and enjoyed visiting the place which is lesser known wildlife destination .We love India and Rare Holidays personalized services and wish to come again when we have the money !!!

Port Blair

Hi Shantanu,We had a great tour yesterday. Everything went smoothly except getting on the train in Delhi, which I want to tell you about for your information. The guide, Ashish, in Agra was terrific. The driver there was excellent, and after we asked explicitly to be accompanied until the train arrived in Agra, one of the office staff from the driver’s company stayed with us on the platform even though the train was almost a hour late. Very helpful,Best wishes, and thanks again for arranging the nice tour and pleasant driver for the return from Delhi train station in the evening.(And thanks for calling this morning; this is the email I mentioned.)
